Terra Dolus Pottery
I graduated from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 1997. Using earthenware clay, vessels are hand built from moulds and templates I have created, similar to sewing pattern pieces. I concentrate on table and accent ware, making objects with a sense of celebration for everyday life. My work is common domestic objects (bowls, platters, mugs etc) which I embellish with layers of slip, sgraffito, and colourful glazes. Patterning is inspired by my love of textiles, travels to Morocco and India, gardening, and Persian ceramics. A driving force in my work with clay is my believe that handmade objects can remind the user that beauty, moments of reflection, and meaning can be found in the everyday, common activities that occupy us all.
